to explore how designers can apply their skills to create positive change in the real world. I focused on a village community in Northern India and worked with the first and second grade teachers in the local government school - with permission from the government of India and the Ministry of Education - to create an art curriculum where one did not exist. The project aimed at implementing a more creative educational environment with the end goal of improving overall attendance rates amongst the school's youngest children, where drop out rates are highest. In just the first five months of my initiatives being carried on by school teachers and officials, instances of absences decreased by 24%, the percentage of students missing five or more days of school per month decreased from 12% to 3%, and the highest number of days a single student missed in a month dropped from 12 down to 6.
